Special Events near Our B&B in Gettysburg
The two main annual events in Gettysburg are the annual Battle Re-enactment, and Remembrance Weekend. The Re-enactment takes place on four days (Thursday through Sunday) nearest to the anniversary of the Battle. The re-enactments are on farms near Gettysburg, not in the National Park. Bleachers are erected to give visitors a great view, and you can mingle with the re-enactors in their camp to see how soldiers lived during the Civil War. There are many supplementary activities, including special Park Ranger walks.
Remembrance Weekend is the closest to the anniversary of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, the famous speech that he gave on November 19, 1863. We have a magnificent parade of re-enactors, both Union and Confederate, through the town on the Sunday, and a ceremony in the National Soldiers Cemetery, with speeches by dignitaries. The parade comes down Baltimore Street past the Brickhouse Inn, so we have a grandstand view.
Among winter events are Irish Weekend, commemorating the Irish Brigade at Gettysburg; Lincoln Weekend, when you can dine with ‘President Lincoln’, and Chamberlain Weekend, when you can follow the heroics of Joshua Chamberlain at Little Round Top.
